Shoojit Sircar’s directorial Piku depicts the deep bond between a father and an independent daughter. Starring Deepika Padukone as Piku and Amitabh Bachchan as Bhashkor Banerjee (father of Piku). The film showcased how a daughter takes care of her ailing father and also fulfills his wish to go on a road trip from Delhi to Kolkata. Released in 2015, the film also stars Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Sajal Bhattacharya, Akshay Oberoi, Swaroopa Ghosh and Sumanto Chattopadhyay in key roles. Piku is currently streaming on Sony LIV.

2. Taare Zameen Par

One of the cult movies of Indian cinema, the film talks about a dyslexic child whose father is unable to understand his poor academic performance. The child was later sent to a boarding school where he came across a teacher who understood his problem and helped him to overcome his fears in life. The teacher then also informed the child’s parents about the disease. The R Balki movie shows a progeria child who has been brought up by his single mother. The child always showcased his interest in meeting his father but his mother tried to hide her past from him. Later, when the child meets his father and gets to know him, their bond becomes deep. The child died with a smile as he got to spend time with his both parents before his death. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Paresh Rawal, Arundathi Nag, and Taruni Sachdev in significant roles. Paa is streaming on OTT platform Peacock.

Nitesh Tiwari’s movie Dangal was one of the blockbuster movies of 2016. It was a biopic based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat who is a former wrestler. It showcased how a father inspired his daughters and trained them in wrestling so that they could bring gold medals for the country despite the social stigmas. The film stars Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Suhani Bhatnagar, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, Sakshi Tanwar, and Girish Kulkarni in key roles. Dangal can watched on Prime Video.

In this movie, a father does everything to fulfill the dreams of his daughter, who aspires to complete her higher studies in London. Despite his initial disapproval, he went through several hilarious circumstances which turned out to become some serious challenges for him to fulfill his daughter’s wish. Helmed by Homi Adajania, the film stars Radhika Madan, Irrfan Khan, Deepak Dobriyal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ankit Bisht in prominent roles. It also marks the last movie of late actor Irrfan Khan. Angrezi Medium is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
