The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) established World Milk Day in 2001 to promote the consumption and benefits of milk around the world. The purpose of this day is to give us with an opportunity to promote awareness of and support activities linked to the dairy industry in any way we can.

According to worldmilkday.org, the theme of World Milk Day 2023 is “Showcasing how dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing nutritious foods and livelihoods.”

Significance of World Milk Day 2023

This day offers a chance to raise awareness of milk among people all over the world. The purpose of the day is to increase public knowledge of the value of milk in a balanced diet, as well as how it helps communities and livelihoods. The FAO estimates that the dairy industry supports more than one billion livelihoods and that more than six billion people around the world eat dairy products.

History of World Milk Day 2023

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations established World Milk Day in 2001 as a means to acknowledge the significance of milk as a worldwide food source and to honour the dairy sector. World Milk Day was chosen as June 1 as the date was influenced by the existence of national milk days celebrated by several countries around this time. Initially, late May was considered as a potential date, but certain countries, such as China, expressed concerns about having multiple celebrations within that month. Consequently, June 1 became the preferred choice for most nations to observe World Milk Day, although some opt to hold their festivities a week or so earlier or later than this specific date.

1. Ice-Cream

Ice-Cream is a refreshing summer dessert made from boiled milk with added flavors and enriched with dry fruits like almonds and pistachios. You can make ice-cream of any flavor you want add chocolate flavor and the chocolate ice-cream is ready, then serve this ice-cream in cone or in bowl.

2. Kheer

A very delicious and enriched food item made of milk is Kheer. It is made by boiling the milk for long time with sugar. It is boiled too an extent at which it becomes thick in texture and dry fruits are also added in it for making more healthy. Kheer can be served hot as well as cold, depending on the taste of people.

3. Paneer

Paneer is most liked dish of almost all Indian peoples. It is made by some chemical reaction by adding something to the milk and extracting thick stuff from it. That stuff is left down for cooling and bonding among the stuff. After bonding, the stuff obtained is known as paneer. There are several dishes made from Paneer.

4. Cake Rusk

Cake Rusk is a light sweet rusk which is made using milk and cream, that makes it soft. Rusk is made up of rawa which is sooji and then baked until it gets crisp. People serve this at the tea time. Without milk this is just rusk which is not so soft and yummy.

Cake is liked by everyone irrespective of age. It is the most loved dish made of bread and whipped cream. Milk plays an important role in making of cake. Milk is used in making cream, condensed milk and other flavoring creams over the cake

6. Fruit Cream

Fruit cream is made by adding a good quantity of fruits in cream along with sugar and other essence. The fruits used in making this dish are apple, orange, grapes, banana, pomegranate etc. along with some flavoring and decorating ingredients like cherries, sugar balls etc.

7. Rasmalai

Ras malai is made of sugary white cream, or it is made from yellow-colored balls of chhana soaked in malai and flavored with cardamom. It is cooked in sugar syrup, milk with saffron, pistachios, almonds and kheer as stuffing. other ingredients which are needed to form dough, shaped into balls, and dropped into simmering milk cream.

8. Mango Shake

Mango shake is made by mixing chopped mango and milk in a juicer mixer with added sugar. It is decorated by syrups like fruit syrup, chocolate syrup etc. It can be garnished with cherries, sugar balls, or pomegranate from top of it. Sometimes chopped mangoes are also used as garnishing agent. It is served cold and it is enjoyed in summer season.

9. Chenna Murki

It is a dessert made from an Indian version of paneer, milk and sugar in many parts of India. Milk and sugar are boiled together to get thick consistency. Different shapes of Paneer are soaked in the milky condensate. It was originated from coastal areas of Bhadrak and it is available in all parts of India. Many other flavors and scented spices are typically added.

10. Phirni

Phirni is a common dessert in India which is served generally after having dinner or lunch. Some of the ingredients of phirni are milk, cashew, pistachios, walnuts, sugar, saffron, etc.
