Breathtaking Places To Visit Before You Die

There are so many exceptional places to visit before you die!

Remember, that often the best surprises lurk in the simple pleasures, so do not always look for the most “popular”, but rather get off the beaten tourist track and really explore!

1. Walk along the Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is 21 thousand kilometres long, so you might not want to walk it ALL! The most beautiful section of the Great Wall of China to walk is from Jinshanling to Simatai. This walk takes about 3-4 hours.

The Great Wall coils from the east coast to the Gobi Desert over rural countryside and steep mountain passes. Dilapidated and unstable in places, it has been eroded by the elements, graffitied and torn apart so its stone can be used for construction work, yet it remains among the world’s most iconic structures (and no, it can’t be seen from space).

2. Stand on top of Preacher’s Pulpit Preikestolen, Norway

There’s a beautiful, moderately demanding 6km hike to reach the Pulpit rock. For an even more spectacular experience start the hike at night to see the sunrise once you get to the top. The best time to go is during the warmer months of May to October.

Preikestolen or Prekestolen (English: ‘The Pulpit Rock’, ‘Pulpit’, or ‘Preacher’s Chair’) is a tourist attraction in the municipality of Strand in Rogaland county, Norway. Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 604 metres (1,982 ft) above Lysefjorden.

3. Take the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru

Hike through picturesque ever-changing environments including cloud forest and alpine tundra. The Classic Inca Trail takes 4 days but you can do longer or shorter treks to suit you. However, the Classic Inca Trail route is a 3 to 5 day hike, and on average, it takes 4 days and 3 nights to reach Machu Picchu. For those short on time, there is a shorter route to Machu Picchu.

4. Wander among the temples at Petra, Jordan

Raqmu, or Petra (as the Greeks knew it), grew into the Nabateans’ most prominent city, linking camel caravans between the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas, from Egypt to Syria and beyond to Greece. Control of water sources and an almost magic ability to vanish into the cleft rocks ensured the Nabateans remained unconquered for centuries.

The temples of Petra in Jordan are a must-see place to visit before you die. Discover for yourself why it is one of the New7Wonders of the World.

5. Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, Australia

The holiday town of Port Douglas in far north Queensland is one of the best places to access the Great Barrier Reef. Just 15 minutes away by boat is the Low Isles, where you can snorkel among corals beside the local population of sea turtles.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on Earth, often visible from outer space!
