Clean California Toxic Sites Companies Pay Nearly $78M

Four firms can pay almost $78 million to wash up Toxic contaminated groundwater at two Los Angeles-area poisonous waste websites,

authorities introduced Tuesday.

Settlements authorized by a federal court docket on Sept. 30 will present cash to wash up two federal Superfund websites in

Department of Justice assertion stated.

People living near the sites have been affected by pollution for years, said Meredith Williams, director of the California Department

of Toxic Substances Control.

“We stand with the people who live, work and play near this contamination, and we will continue our efforts to make the polluters

pay for their actions toxic,” she said in a statement.

Authorities say four companies will pay nearly $78 million to clean up contaminated groundwater at two Los Angeles-area

toxic waste sites.

  The Montrose Chemical Toxic Corp:

The Montrose Chemical Corp. and Del Amos Superfund sites, located south of downtown Los Angeles near the communities of

Torrance. They are among several former industrial areas in Southern

California that are on the national Superfund priority list of sites requiring long-term hazardous waste cleanup toxic.

The companies involved are Montrose Chemical Corporation of California; Bayer Crop Science Inc.; TFCF America Inc., and

Stauffer Management Company LLC. We stand with the people who live, work and play near this contamination, and

we will continue our efforts to make the polluters pay for their actions, she said in a statement.

From 1947 to 1982, Montrose operated the country’s largest manufacturing plant for the pesticide DDT at the Montrose site,

federal prosecutors said.
