The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a crucial update regarding FASTag, indicating that those with incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) details will face deactivation or blacklisting after January 31, irrespective of having a valid balance. The move is part of NHAI’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of the toll collection system, ensuring a streamlined and authenticated process across the country.
NHAI has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative to further improve the electronic toll collection system. This initiative aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle, promoting a more organized and effective toll plaza experience.

To check the FASTag status online, users can follow these steps:
- Visit the website – fastag.ihmcl.com
- Click on ‘Login’ and provide mobile number and password details
- An OTP will be generated and sent as a text message; add the OTP and login
- Click on the ‘My Profile’ tab and select the KYC status option
For updating FASTag KYC online, users can:
- Visit the website – fastag.ihmcl.com
- Click on the ‘My Profile’ section and open the ‘KYC’ tab
- Add the required details, including identity and address proof documents
- Upload a passport-size photo
- Click on ‘confirm the declaration,’ then click ‘submit’
The KYC process is expected to take a maximum of seven working days to be updated. Additionally, FASTag users can reach out to the nearest toll plazas or toll-free customer care numbers of their respective issuer banks for any clarification regarding KYC updates.
The necessary documents for FASTag KYC update, as per RBI guidelines, include the registration certificate of the vehicle, identity proof, and address proof (Passport, Voter’s ID, Aadhar Card, Driving license, PAN card, NREGA Job card), along with a passport-size photo. It is essential for FASTags users to ensure compliance with these guidelines to avoid any inconvenience after the specified deadline.
