The first AC local train was introduced in Mumbai in 2017 and quickly gained popularity. Currently, approximately 1.24 lakh passengers, or about 4% of the total 31 lakh daily commuters on the Western Railway, travel in AC locals. With the new train, this number is expected to grow, making the air-conditioned local trains a preferred mode of travel for many commuters.
Designed for Increased Demand
Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the new AC local train is built to accommodate the increasing demand for premium services. With eight AC rakes currently in service, the new addition will help alleviate overcrowding in regular local trains, offering passengers more options and greater comfort.
