India launches ‘Operation Sindoor,’ carries out strikes in Pakistan

Sindoor

In its most extensive operation against terror networks based in Pakistan, the Indian armed forces launched precision strikes in the early hours of Wednesday, destroying nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Among the targets were the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Indian forces carried out the strikes, dubbing them Operation Sindoor, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives two weeks earlier. Conducted between 1:05 am and 1:30 am — lasting just 25 minutes — the operation employed advanced missiles equipped with carefully selected warheads.

After the strikes, the Ministry of Defence clarified that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, highlighting that the action was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.” The ministry also highlighted that India exercised significant restraint in choosing both the targets and the methods used in the operation.

India Targets Nine Key Terror Sites Across Pakistan and PoK in Retaliatory Strikes

The Pakistan Army reported that the strikes killed at least 26 people and injured 46 others. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country has every right to respond to “this act of war”.

Of the nine sites targeted, five were in PoK (two sites each in Muzaffarabad and Kotli and one in Bhimber), and four in Pakistan (two in Sialkot, one each in Muridke and Bahawalpur) – a marked departure from 2019 when, following the Pulwama terror attack, the Indian Air Force targeted one terror site, at Balakot, in Pakistan.

Indian forces targeted nine sites: Markaz Taiba at Muridke near Lahore, the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba where 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab and Lashkar operative David Coleman Headley trained; Markaz Subhanallah, the Jaish-e-Mohammed base in Bahawalpur; Sarjal and Mehmona Joya in Sialkot; Sawai Nala and Syedna Bilal in Muzaffarabad; Gulpur and Abbas in Kotli; and Bhimber.
